GOVERNMENT TO COMPLETE 500 KILOMETRES OF ROADS IN ASHANTI REGION
“The Government of Ghana is set to complete a total of 500 kilometres of new road projects in the Ashanti Region and it is expected to be completed by December 2020 in line with the ‘Year of Roads’ initiative declared by President Akufo-Addo in 2019. This assurance was given by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. kwesi Amoako Atta during a press briefing on 4th May, 2020 at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council. He further noted that already, 460 kilometres of the new road projects under construction in the region are scheduled for completion and handing over by September this year.

He noted that, since the period spanning 1984 to 1989 when a total of 110 kilometres of asphaltic road construction was done within the Kumasi metropolis, nothing has been done to improve the state of roads in the city hence government’s resolve to invest heavily in the sector in the Ashanti Region. This is particularly important against the background that the Kumasi metropolis is Ghana’s second-biggest city, as well as a hub for commerce, industry and culture.
Mr. Amoako Atta, said a total of 156 road projects being managed by different portfolio sectors, are currently ongoing in the Ashanti Region simultaneously. He indicated that a total of 33 different road projects considered as cocoa roads are being undertaken under the COCOBOD Programme. Further to that, a total of 74 road projects are being constructed under the Government
